You have the option to pay your water utility bill at a local participating retailer with cash, using a barcode obtained from our website. There are a number of retailers in San Mateo County and Santa Clara County that offer the option to pay your utility bill in cash at their store. Participating retailers include Walgreens, CVS, and Office Depot. (Cash payments are subject to a $2.95 convenience fee.) To make a cash payment please read through the following instructions in their entirety prior to heading to your local retailer.
Making a cash payment requires that you obtain a barcode from this website. Without a barcode you will not be able to make a payment on your water utility bill. (Follow the link below to start the process.)
Make Payment Link (Click Here)
You will see a page with the option to make a One Time Payment, or the option to login.
You do not need a login for a cash payment. So you will click on the blue “One Time Pay” button.
On the following page you will enter your six digit East Palo Alto Water account number, and your zip code.
Next fill out the requested payment information. First name, last name, email address, and amount you wish to pay. (You will need a valid email address for this to work.) Under the ‘Payment Method’ section click on the “$ Cash” option. Then click on the blue “Choose Retail Location” button.
You will then be prompted to either enter a zip code or “Use my Location” to search for a participating store. (You do not need to be in the bay area to make a cash payment. Cash payments can be made nationwide at participating retailers.)
Choose the retailer from the list that works best for you, then click “Continue”.
You will be returned to the previous screen where you will verify that all information is correct before clicking “Continue”.
Next you will confirm the payment method and amount, click that you agree to Payment Terms and Conditions, and then the blue “Get Payment Barcode” button.
You will then see a screen similar to this, with a unique barcode that you will use for your transaction.
A copy of this barcode will be emailed to the address you provided. (The email will be coming from confirmation@paymentus.com. Be sure to check your spam folder if it does not arrive in your inbox.) You can print the barcode, or display it to the retailer on your mobile device.
These barcodes are good for 6 HOURS after they are created. If not used within that window a new barcode will need to be acquired.
Obtaining a barcode does NOT require payment be made. If a payment is not made after obtaining a barcode there will be no penalties incurred for not using it. However, obtaining a barcode is not considered payment. Until the final transaction is completed at a retailer, the account will not reflect any payment, barcode or not, and will be subject to regular late fees if payment is not received prior to the due date listed on your current bill.
