Meter Replacement Project Information and FAQs
The meter replacement project is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2022.
On every bill for the last few years, account holders have been funding this project and because of that, the City has purchased over 2700 Neptune RF meters needed to ensure every meter in East Palo Alto is providing accurate consumption.
These meters use RF (Radio Frequency) technology. This allows water meter collection of consumption data to be read without having to manually read the dial on the water meter. This technology has been used for well over 20 years and has proven to be accurate and allows substantial time savings.
What does that mean for me and our community?
This means that your account consumption data will be more accurate, read faster and allow for better data to help understand water use and conservation opportunities.

What’s next?
Veolia Water will begin to notify our customers of our intentions to visit each meter location, prepare for meter replacement and installation.
Notifications will include messages on water bills, direct mailers, phone calls and door hangers.
These notifications will specifically ask you to make sure the area around your water meter box is clear from debris on a specific date or date range. Please ensure this is completed.
We take every precaution necessary to give proper notification and to perform this service in a timely and professional manner. Veolia is not responsible for residential plumbing issues.
How do you install the new water meter?
In order to replace your water meter, Veolia operators will turn the water off to your home, remove the old water meter and replace with a new water meter.
How long will my water be off?
This process should not take more than 15 to 30 minutes to complete. However, unforeseen issues may arise. Our operators will work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
That’s it!
Once the meter is installed, there is nothing more to do. Your billing will remain the same with nothing further to worry about.
